GT vs KKR at the World's Largest Cricket Stadium
GT's season turned in Match 14 against DC. Defending 210, Rashid Khan took 3/17 to seal a one-run victory — the closest match of IPL 2026 so far. Then came the LSG demolition: Prasidh Krishna's 4/28 broke the home side's backbone, and Gill and Buttler chased 165 with eight balls to spare. Two wins from the last two matches. The trajectory is upward.
KKR need a reset. Zero wins. Three defeats. One abandonment. The only point came from Kolkata rain, not Kolkata cricket. Green has not justified his record price tag — the most expensive overseas player in IPL auction history has scored single figures in two of his three innings. Rahane's captaincy is under pressure. The body language in the field has been poor. Travelling to Ahmedabad for a Friday night match under lights at the world's largest stadium is either the catalyst for change or the latest chapter in a forgettable season.

GT's Bowling Arsenal: Pace and Rashid
Prasidh Krishna: 10 wickets, Purple Cap holder, bowling at 140+ with vicious bounce. Kagiso Rabada: experienced, disciplined, capable of wicket-taking spells in any phase. Mohammed Siraj: adds left-arm variety and has bowled well in the powerplay this season. And then Rashid Khan — the greatest T20 spinner of his generation, who took 3/17 against DC when GT needed it most.
This is a four-pronged bowling attack that can restrict any lineup. Against KKR's batting — where Green is struggling, Allen has been inconsistent, and the middle order lacks a reliable anchor beyond Rahane — GT's bowlers should dominate. Rashid against Rinku Singh in the middle overs is a matchup that could decide the match. Rinku averages below 20 against quality leg-spin in T20s. Rashid knows this.
KKR's Search for a First Win
Four matches without a win. The last time KKR started a season this badly was 2012. They went on to win the title that year. History is not a guarantee, but it is a reminder. Rovman Powell came in for Narine against PBKS and added hitting power to the lower order. If Varun and Narine return for this match, KKR's bowling improves dramatically. Varun on the Ahmedabad surface — which has historically assisted spinners late in the innings — could be the x-factor KKR desperately need.
The batting needs Allen to fire at the top and Green to justify his selection. Raghuvanshi showed promise at number three against LSG. Powell offers six-hitting ability at five or six. The pieces are there. They have just not clicked together yet. Ahmedabad might be the place where they finally do — or the place where KKR's season effectively ends.
Narendra Modi Stadium: The Ahmedabad Factor
The NMS pitch varies. Early-season surfaces have been good for batting, with true bounce and pace. As the tournament progresses, the Ahmedabad surface tends to slow down and offer assistance to spinners in the second innings. For an April evening match, expect a good batting wicket with some turn later. Average first-innings scores have been around 170-180 in recent IPL matches here. GT lost to RR here by 6 runs in Match 9 defending 210 — which says more about RR's quality than about the pitch.
My Prediction: GT to Win
GT at home with momentum, Prasidh in Purple Cap form, Rashid controlling the middle overs, and Gill leading from the front. Against a KKR side yet to find a single win, GT should be comfortable favourites. I expect GT to restrict KKR below 165 and chase it down in 18 overs. Gill at home in Ahmedabad has a different gear — his connection with this crowd, this ground, this franchise runs deep.
KKR's only hope: Narine and Varun both return, provide 8 quality overs of spin, and the batting finally clicks as a unit. Even then, GT's bowling depth makes them hard to beat at home.
