RCB vs LSG: Defending Champions Host at Fortress Chinnaswamy
RCB bounced back from their loss to RR in Guwahati with a convincing win over MI at Wankhede. Three wins from four, sitting third. The defending champions look like title contenders again. Kohli's fifties are coming regularly, Salt provides explosive starts, and Tim David — 70* off 25 against CSK — is the most destructive finisher in the tournament right now.
LSG come in off a defeat to Gujarat Titans. Prasidh Krishna's 4/28 exposed their middle order, and the 164/8 they posted was 20-30 runs short. Rishabh Pant's form has been inconsistent — flashes of brilliance followed by reckless dismissals. At Chinnaswamy, where the ball comes onto the bat beautifully, Pant could be brilliant. Or he could throw his wicket away chasing a wide one from Jacob Duffy. That unpredictability defines this match.

RCB's Batting Machine at Chinnaswamy
250/3 against CSK. That was not an outlier — it was a statement of intent. Salt, Kohli, Padikkal, Patidar, David — five batters capable of scoring 50+ in any given innings. At Chinnaswamy, where the short square boundaries and true bounce make strokeplay easier, RCB's batting becomes genuinely frightening. David's ability to clear the boundary from ball one is a weapon few teams can neutralize.
The bowling improved too. Bhuvneshwar Kumar's experience in the powerplay, Jacob Duffy's swing, and Suyash Sharma's wrist spin through the middle overs give RCB a balanced attack. They conceded 207 against CSK at home, which sounds poor — until you remember CSK's top three fell for 30 runs. The bowling did its job. The run rate was inflated by lower-order hitting that never threatened the target.
LSG's Challenge: Mohammed Shami vs Chinnaswamy Conditions
Mohammed Shami has been exceptional this season. His economy in the powerplay is among the best in the tournament, and Prince Yadav has complemented him well with wickets at regular intervals. The question is whether Shami's seam movement survives the Chinnaswamy conditions — flat pitch, true bounce, outfield like a carpet. This is not Lucknow's slow, low Ekana surface. Shami will need to bowl fuller and straighter, targeting the stumps rather than relying on lateral movement.
LSG's batting depends heavily on Pant and Mitchell Marsh at the top. Ayush Badoni's 54 off 34 against KKR showed finishing ability, and Mukul Choudhary's 54* in the same match was a breakout performance. But the middle order — Pooran, Abdul Samad — has underdelivered. Pooran's strike rate is below 120 this season. At Chinnaswamy, that kind of approach gets you left behind in a hurry.
Chinnaswamy Pitch Report
Batting paradise. Short boundaries. True bounce. Minimal seam movement. Dew from 8 PM onwards makes bowling second a nightmare. The team batting second has won more than 55% of IPL matches at this venue in recent seasons. Average first-innings scores regularly exceed 180. Anything below 170 is sub-par. RCB know this ground better than anyone — they have built their entire squad philosophy around maximizing these conditions.
My Prediction: RCB to Win
RCB at home with this batting lineup against an LSG bowling attack that was dismantled by GT at Ekana. The defending champions should win this one comfortably. I expect RCB to post 190+ if batting first, or to chase anything under 200 with relative ease. Kohli at Chinnaswamy under lights is a different animal — his IPL record here is staggering, and the crowd feeds him energy like nowhere else.
LSG's best shot: win the toss, bat first, Pant plays a vintage 80+ innings, and Shami bowls out of his skin in the powerplay. That is a narrow path to victory, but Pant has the talent to walk it.
